A Brief Overview

Based off of interviews conducted with both my mom and dad, this website explores their views on arranged marriage, their lives as immigrants, and their parenting styles, and the cultural differences between India and the United States.

I organized my interview with my parents into 4 major categories: Who Is my Family, On Family Formation, On Parenting Styles, and On Life as Immigrants. In the first section, I provided a brief overview of their identity in terms of their intersection of class, gender, ethnicity and provide a brief explanation of how these have helped formulate their identity of family. For the second section, I explained how my parents met and compared their meeting story to Aziz Ansari’s Modern Romance. I explained how their culture and religion has impacted their family formation in terms of what they looked for in a partner and deciding when to get married. For the third section, I focused on how my parents raised me during early childhood and the role they played during college. For the fourth section, I focused on their lives as immigrants and how they believe their lives have changed over the past 22 years, as well as the culture shock they first experienced when they first moved here.
